Update, 1 a.m. Pacific, Sunday, Nov. 1: More rain is on the way. FOX5 meteorologists said a low-pressure system off California is expected to move inland Sunday and bring another round of showers to the valley, tapering off by the afternoon, with highs in the 60s. A flood watch banner remains posted, so drivers should still avoid flooded streets and washes. The rest of the week is expected to be dry, sunny and cooler than normal. (FOX5)
Updated 8 p.m. Pacific, Saturday, Oct. 31. A second round of heavy storms is soaking the Las Vegas Valley on Halloween night. The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for the north and northwest parts of the valley, including North Las Vegas, Lone Mountain, Centennial Hills and the Aliante area. The warning is in effect until 9:15 p.m. Saturday.
What forecasters are seeing
FOX5 meteorologists reported torrential rain, active lightning, localized street flooding and wind gusts above 40 mph with the storm cells moving through the northern valley Saturday evening. The Review-Journal also reported a flood warning for parts of the valley as trick-or-treaters headed out in the rain.
The storms come one day after Friday’s flash flooding, when the weather service warned of dangerous, potentially life-threatening conditions. KTNV reported that Henderson crews pulled four people to safety in water rescues Friday afternoon and that one person died, while Lake Mead Parkway was closed east of Lake Las Vegas Parkway because of flooding and debris.
More rain overnight
Clark County said more storms were expected through the weekend, with the heaviest rain late Saturday into Sunday. 8 News Now’s forecast also called for rain chances to increase late Saturday into Sunday.
What it means for locals and visitors
- Never drive through flooded roads. Officials repeat it every storm: turn around if water is moving across a street or pooled in a dip. It only takes a little moving water to sweep a car away.
- Watch for trick-or-treaters. Kids in dark costumes are out in the rain tonight. Slow down in neighborhoods, especially in the northwest and North Las Vegas.
- Driver tip: Rideshare and taxi drivers should expect slower trips and wet pickups in the northern valley until the warning ends. Give extra following distance on wet roads.
- Heading to the Strip? Plan for extra travel time and check the forecast before late-night plans, since more rain is expected overnight into Sunday.
