Governor’s race

Democrat Aaron Ford was ahead of Republican Gov. Joe Lombardo in early results, 52.3% to 47.7%, according to the Review-Journal. Earlier in the night, Lombardo told supporters at the Republican election night headquarters to be patient and said he expected to keep the governor’s office, KTNV reported.

Congress, Legislature and local races

Democrats led in all four of Nevada’s congressional races in early voting returns, including the 2nd District, which usually votes Republican, the Review-Journal reported. Democrats were also leading in state Assembly and Senate races. In Henderson, Romero and Atlas were ahead in the mayoral and City Council races, and incumbents were holding strong in three Clark County School District board races, according to the newspaper. Early returns on the statewide ballot questions showed voters willing to change the state constitution.

Turnout and ballots still to count

Nearly 1 million Nevadans had cast ballots by about 9:20 p.m. Tuesday, including more than 670,000 in Clark County, KTNV reported. Some Clark County voters waited up to three hours in line, and a handful of vote centers stayed open well past the 7 p.m. poll closing to serve people already in line. Clark County had also flagged 7,139 mail ballots for signature problems on Tuesday evening; 3,521 had been fixed, leaving 3,618 that voters still need to cure before they can be counted.

What it means for locals and visitors

Leads can change as more mail and Election Day ballots are counted over the coming days, so close races may not be decided right away. If you voted by mail and got notice of a signature problem, contact the Clark County Election Department to cure your ballot. Official results are posted by the Nevada Secretary of State and Clark County. Vegas Daily Wire will update this story as new counts come in.
