The Vegas Golden Knights’ Nevada Day matinee did not go their way. The New Jersey Devils beat Vegas 5-2 on Friday afternoon, Oct. 30, at T-Mobile Arena, according to the NHL’s game recap.

How the game went

Luke Hughes put New Jersey ahead 5:38 into the first period. Vegas answered late in the frame: Mark Stone scored on the power play at 16:27 and Ivan Barbashev followed at 17:57 to give the Knights a 2-1 lead. It did not last. Arseny Gritsyuk tied it at 18:51 of the first, Jack Hughes scored early in the second, and Gritsyuk added his second goal late in the period. Jack Hughes finished it with an empty-net goal in the third.

Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck made 19 saves for the Devils, his second straight win with New Jersey. Adin Hill stopped 27 shots for Vegas, and Mitch Marner had two assists.

Where the Knights stand

The loss leaves Vegas at 9-5-1 and 1-3-1 over its past five games, per the NHL. New Jersey improved to 9-5-0. The Golden Knights’ next game is listed on the NHL schedule against the Boston Bruins on Monday, Nov. 2.

What it means for locals and visitors

The Knights have dropped four of their last five, so Monday’s game against Boston is a chance to stop the slide. If you’re heading to a game at T-Mobile Arena, remember clocks fall back an hour early Sunday, and showers are in the forecast Saturday night into Sunday, so plan a little extra time for traffic and rideshare pickups around the Strip.
