One hand of baccarat turned into a seven-figure night for two players at the Palms Casino Resort. A progressive baccarat jackpot worth $1,154,924 hit at the off-Strip casino and was split between two winners, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported Monday evening.
Who won
According to a casino spokesperson cited by the Review-Journal, the jackpot was shared by a local player and a visiting tourist, both paid off by the same hand. The winners’ names were not released, and the size of each player’s share and their wagers were not included in the initial report.
Progressive jackpots on table games build over time as players make side bets, and pay out when a qualifying hand lands. The Palms, on Flamingo Road just west of Interstate 15, has posted a string of large table-game and slot jackpots over the past few years.
What it means for locals and visitors
For locals, it is a reminder that some of the biggest Las Vegas payouts happen off the Strip, at casinos that court neighborhood regulars as much as tourists. After a large progressive hits, the meter resets to its starting amount, so the next jackpot on that game will be much smaller for a while. As always, progressive side bets carry long odds; set a budget before you play.
We will update this story if the casino releases more details.
