The man who started 24 Hour Fitness is bringing a bigger, more upscale gym concept to the west valley. Founders Club by 24 Hour Fitness is slated to open early next year in the former Ashley furniture store at the northeast corner of Sahara Avenue and Fort Apache Road, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.

What is coming to West Sahara

The new club, at 9200 W. Sahara Ave. in the Canyon Lakes Plaza shopping center, will cover more than 45,000 square feet, according to a company news release cited by the Review-Journal. The company puts the total investment at about $10 million.

Plans call for free weights and cardio equipment, a large turf area, a group fitness studio and a juice bar and cafe. The club is also adding extras that go well beyond a typical neighborhood gym: a recovery lounge with hyperbaric chambers, massage chairs and red-light saunas, a medical spa offering IV therapy, a dedicated glute and lower-body training zone, a DJ booth and a mirrored “posing room.” Pre-opening memberships run roughly $60 to $100 a month, the release said. A “coming soon” banner went up over the entrance late last week.

A comeback for the brand in Las Vegas

Mark Mastrov founded 24 Hour Fitness in 1983 in California and sold it in 2005. The chain filed for bankruptcy in June 2020 during the pandemic and closed eight Las Vegas-area gyms, leaving only its Summerlin club off Town Center Drive. Mastrov and investment firm LongRange Capital reacquired the company this year, and the Summerlin location has since had a $1.5 million remodel. Mastrov has said his team is eyeing two or three more possible sites in the valley.

What it means for locals and visitors

West-side residents in Canyon Gate, Desert Shores and Summerlin South get another high-end fitness option at a time when premium gyms are multiplying across the valley. For drivers, expect more traffic in and out of Canyon Lakes Plaza at Sahara and Fort Apache once the club opens. An exact opening date and final membership pricing have not been announced.
