October becomes the valley’s deadliest month for pedestrians this year
Ten pedestrians have died in the Las Vegas Valley in October, the most of any month this year, and eight of those deaths happened after sunset, according to PedSafe Vegas and the UNLV Transportation Research Center. Year to date, 64 pedestrians have been killed, down 8% from the same point last year. With daylight shrinking ahead of the end of Daylight Saving Time, officials planned to launch a #Dusk2Dawn safety campaign Wednesday at University Center Drive and Flamingo Road; Flamingo has been the deadliest road for pedestrians over the past five years. LVMPD Traffic Bureau Capt. Jarvis Dudley urged drivers to slow down and stop for people on foot. (FOX5)
Driver tip: Evening rides on Flamingo, especially near UNLV, call for extra caution after dark. Watch for people crossing mid-block and give yourself more stopping room.
