Updated Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2026, 10 a.m. Pacific. Las Vegas police say a grim milestone was reached this month: a pedestrian struck in the west-central valley has become the 100th traffic death in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction in 2026.

75-year-old pedestrian dies weeks after Torrey Pines crash

Police said a 75-year-old man was walking across South Torrey Pines Drive in a marked crosswalk, north of Celeste Avenue near Alta Drive, on Oct. 1 when a Honda CR-V hit him. According to police, the driver failed to see him. He was taken to University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, and the Clark County Coroner’s Office told investigators on Oct. 22 that he had died at the hospital.

LVMPD says his death is the 100th traffic-related fatality in its jurisdiction so far this year. Police have not announced any citation or arrest in connection with the crash. (News 3 Las Vegas)

Driver tip: Days are getting shorter and the evening commute is now in the dark. Slow down near crosswalks on side streets like Torrey Pines and Alta, look twice for people walking, and give pedestrians the full crossing before you roll through a turn.

Also overnight

Our earlier Scanner Reports cover the two people killed in a fiery single-car crash on the southbound I-15 ramp to St. Rose Parkway (the ramp reopened by 5 a.m. Tuesday) and the 72-year-old woman killed at Mountain Vista Street and Rawhide Avenue Monday night.

Anyone with information about a crash can call Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
