Driver’s Cam: A Wednesday Night Shift From South Point to the Strip

I drive Uber and Lyft Black around Las Vegas, and Wednesday night, Oct. 14, I kept the camera rolling. No breaking news here, just what the city looks like from the driver’s seat between about 10 and 11 p.m.: a quiet stretch at South Point, the run up toward the Strip, the airport road, and the late traffic on the way back.

1. South Point, all lit up

First stop was South Point on Las Vegas Boulevard South. Horse trailers were parked out front. South Point has its own equestrian center, so trailers there usually mean a horse show is in town. It’s one of the calmer casino lots to wait in at night.

2. Heading out on the night shift

Pulling out of the South Point area with the casino lights behind me and the nav on screen. Weeknight traffic was light, which is the best time to drive this end of town.

3. Planes on one side, the Strip up ahead

Running along the airport with parked jets on the right and the Strip glowing straight ahead. Few views in Las Vegas beat this one at night.

4. Late traffic, red lights and brake lights

Around 10:45 p.m., the side streets were still busy. Lots of red lights and a pack of cars at the last intersection.

Driver tips for weeknights

  • The south end of the Strip and the South Point area are usually easier to work on weeknights than Center Strip.
  • Flamingo and Koval stay closed for the F1 bridge until 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, so plan around it.
  • Riders out by the airport late at night are often heading to the Strip or home after a flight. Keep the car charged and ready.
