A new all-day neighborhood restaurant has opened on East Sunset Road, right across from Harry Reid International Airport. Significant Other Kitchen & Cocktails, a $5.2 million project, has made its debut, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported Tuesday.

What’s inside

The restaurant covers about 7,100 square feet and seats roughly 290 guests across its dining rooms, bar and terrace, according to the Review-Journal. The design leans on natural materials and bold artwork, and the menu is modern American.

Earlier announcements described an all-day format: coffee and house-made pastries in the morning, pastas and salads at lunch, and steaks, seafood and chef-driven entrees at dinner, plus craft cocktails and a curated wine list. Plans also called for private event spaces and a pet-friendly outdoor patio with views of the airport runways.

Who’s behind it

Significant Other sits at 1725 E. Sunset Road, Suite 150. The project comes from Mike and Kristi Austin. Mike Austin founded Austin General Contracting, which originally planned to put its headquarters on the site. Their partner is restaurateur Matthew Silverman, a creator of Summerlin’s Vintner Grill who has also worked on Alexxa’s, Beer Park and Big Chicken. Chef Matthew Piekarski, who has Strip restaurant experience, runs the kitchen.

What it means for locals and visitors

Most sit-down options near the airport are inside the terminals or on the Strip, so a full-service restaurant with a patio on Sunset Road gives locals working in the airport corridor and travelers with a few hours to spare a new place to eat. For rideshare drivers, it’s a handy stop between airport runs. Call ahead or check the restaurant’s listings for current hours and reservations before you go.
